CRAFT co-Director elected to Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

Dr. Teodor Veres, co-Director of CRAFT, has been elected a 2023 Fellow to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences are elected on the basis of their demonstrated leadership, creativity, distinctive competencies, commitment to advancing academic health sciences and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This election as a Fellow is in recognition of the excellence Dr. Veres’s work as a leader in Canadian health sciences.

For almost 20 years, Dr. Veres has led and been part of many innovative cross-disciplinary projects at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) to create nanomaterials and new lab-on-chip microfluidic devices.

One of his team’s most notable achievements is the development of the PowerBlade, an innovative centrifugal microfluidics technology that automates and deploys complex diagnostic assays in remote and point-of-care settings. It also pioneered the use of thermoplastic elastomeric materials (TPEs) for the low-cost high-volume fabrication of microfluidic devices.

In addition to co-leading CRAFT, Dr. Veres is the Director of Research and Development at the NRC’s Medical Devices Research Centre and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto.

“I feel honoured to be elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. I am fortunate to have so many colleagues at NRC, academia, and in industry who share the same passion for research as I do, and help me push the boundaries of science to create new biodevice technologies that impact people’s lives. This would not have been possible without them,” Dr. Veres shares.

Congratulations Dr. Veres!
